Glasgow residents face bleak New Year
Glasgow, Scotlands largest city, with a population well in excess of 1 million people is
facing severe budgetary problems. Any further budget cuts could lead to the loss of up to 2000 jobs .
Savings of £45m are being considered which would see severe cuts in the home help
service, half-yearly closure of the Gallery of Modern Art and the Museum of Transport
and the closure of libraries and leisure services.
Added to this, council tax (City tax for street lights, rubbish collection etc) bills will also be increased by about 30%.
Whilst London stands to gain tremendously in its spending, the Scots will again have to wait
for scraps to fall from Londons table.
Is this one of Blairs pledges made to the Scottish voter?
