Scotland to get World Trade Association office
Opening in 2004, a World Trade Association will begin exchanges in trade deals from Granton Harbour
in Edinburgh.
We have to hope the WTA is not too closely aligned with the WTO, the world trade organisation.
In theory it is not, as it (the WTA) was nominated for a Nobel Peace prize!
The WTO is the body that backed the USA in the ongoing
banana war that led to crippling duties on Scottish goods bound for the USA. The WTO
is NOT a benign body, and is often bullied around by London and Washington (when it has a
president that is....) into making statements that adversely affect smaller nations.
Caveat Emptor.
