Clydeside shipbuilding thrown a bone
The 240 compulsory redundancies at the Govan ship yard will not happen,
but there will be 97 layoffs.
The yards new owners, GEC/Marconi, who bought the yard from Kvaerner for £2.25 million, will run a very small operation there!
The Clyde used to build most of the worlds large ships, Winston Churchill
wanted to machine gun striking Clydeside workers in 1919, now the area
may as well be dead. Lack of investment and support from Westminster
for the last 50 years has ended this major era of Scottish history.
