Labours plans for transport in Scotland

Malcolm Chisholm, the new transport Minister for Scotland said:

  • Parking fine money will help to pay for traffic improvements in the areas where the money is collected instead of going to London.
  • The change will raise £3 million a year in Edinburgh.
  • Scottish Office will encourage councils to introduce 20mph speed limits outside schools and on residential streets.
  • These and other measures are to help form a new integrated transport infrastruture.
  • Final approval for an express busway in Edinburgh.
  • Moves to create better co-ordination of transport in the Highlands and Islands.
  • A national forum to bring all transport interests together.
  • A strategy to persuade motorists to park their cars and walk for a change.
