Scottish parliamentary executive drop dumb toll plans
Placing tolls on major ring roads and motorways in Scotland would not have helped
the environment one bit. The idea has been scrapped.
At the same time however, no substantial cash increase to fund more buses or
rail services has been announced. The paltry millions earmarked will not make
a dent in the run down services many Scots endure.
What is to be done to curb pollution then? You can't just go increasing
fuel taxes because people have to keep warm and (unless they live in the
round London comfort zone) often have negligible rail services?
Labour promised a bold new plan to integrate new traffic models and support
public transport - seems that the rhetoric was just a large volume of
Carbon mon and dioxdies....
