Glasgow housing into private hands
The bulk of the public housing in Glasgow needs to be
renovated or simply demolished and rebuilt. Glasgow city plans to transfer
all its houses to one monolithic management organisation.
The Scottish Executive (who are correct for once) see this as a recipe
for disaster and want local housing associations to maintain control
instead.
The fear of course is that if it ISN'T one large body, the Scottish
executive could more easily HIDE funding cuts saying it was being
'targetted towards needier areas of the city' and quietly siphon off
the cash. Whereas one large authority would be able to keep close
tabs on their cash allocation and the Scottish executive.
Devil and the deep blue sea in this case.
