SNP backs monetary Union (EMU)
Alex Salmond (SNP party leader) will commit the Scottish Nationalist Party to backing the entry of Scotland, England, Wales and N. Ireland into the European single currency.
Mr Salmond is set to state his backing for adoption of the euro and the abandonment of the
"British" pound. He wants a referendum and will commit the SNP to support a "strong and
positive" information campaign before voters are asked to approve a Government bid to
join other EU countries in the early years of next century.
