Trains to get more funding but is it enough
Railtrack, the organization that controls the tracks and stations used by all
the recently (now expensive, irregular, slow) privatised train companies is
to get 27 billion pounds to improve matters in Scotland and England.
2 billion will be spent in Scotland. This seems generous, but if you have travelled
in South Eastern Englan recently, you'll see lots of flashy stations and not
enough trains.
The tracks do need severe improvements but it will only happen in the South East.
There is no plan for instance to build a high speed rail link for Glasgow Prestwick
or Edinburgh international to match the line built for Heathrow-Paddington.
