Scotch duty rise before review 'inconsistent'

The budget added 1p to a dram of whisky and the average bottle of Whisky rises by 19p (36c).

Industry leaders attacked the move saying it was inconsistent in the face of the Chancellor's decision, also announced in the Budget, to undertake a thorough review of the whole alcohol tax system which currently taxes Scotch at about double the level of either beer or wine.
