Green farms may get cash boost at expense of agri-businesses

There are plans to assign an environmentally friendliness index to farms in Scotland and England on a scale of 1-10 that says 10 (ORGANIC farming) to 1 (giant agri-business farming).

If the Euro agricultural policy makers agree then the farms nearer 10 would got more subsidies than those at the lower end of the scale (the mass producers and polluters).

In the long term this seems like a great idea t improve the quality of foodstuffs and clean up the environment. However, the large farmers MUST be helped easy away from the "low" end of the scale to keep in business and yet be more friendly towards the environment.
