Labour pledges cleanliness

Tony Blair yesterday asked the public to believe him when he said that Labour wouldn't change policy based on cash donations to the party

Live on television, Mr Blair both apologised and took full responsibility over the shambolic handling of the row surrounding Formula One's controversial exemption from the ban on tobacco advertising.

Consciously deploying his reputation for honesty, Mr Blair said he would " never, ever do something wrong or improper or change a policy because someone supported or donated to the Labour Party. "
